Course Reflection: Business Plan Development

When I began my Entertainment Business Master’s journey, my goal for Business Plan Development was to learn how to take my experience, creative ideas, and vision for Majestic Black Line Records, LLC and organize them into a professional business plan. I expected to learn about business-plan structure, financial projections, target markets, and strategies for presenting a company to potential investors. The course delivered those lessons, but the experience became more detailed and practical than I originally expected.

One of my biggest areas of growth has been understanding how every section of a business plan must connect. I learned that sales projections cannot simply represent what I hope the company will earn. Pricing, cost of goods sold, marketing, staffing, startup expenses, working capital, and profitability must support one another. Working through the financial worksheets helped me see my company differently. Instead of looking only at the creative possibilities, I began examining whether the numbers realistically support the vision.

The structure of the course also required me to revisit and improve earlier work. Instructor feedback caused me to examine assumptions, account for inflation, evaluate staffing expenses, and connect working capital to projected cash flow. That process strengthened my financial planning skills and taught me that a business plan should evolve as better information becomes available.

The most significant change from my original prediction is my understanding of what it means to be both a creative entrepreneur and a business owner. My experience in music, production, events, and entrepreneurship gave me a foundation, but this course helped me put structure behind that experience.

Professionally, I will apply what I learned to strengthen Majestic Black Line Records, The Lab Multimedia Recording Studio, and my future business ventures. My goal is no longer simply to have great ideas. I want to build sustainable businesses where ideals become creations through planning, discipline, ownership, and execution.
